It all started in 1912. A group of passionate locals, led by the town’s mayor and multitasker extraordinaire, Charles Harper, decided that Victoria Park needed a Bowling Club. Just like that, with a sprinkle of enthusiasm and a dash of community spirit, the Victoria Park Bowling Club was born. Fast forward to 2009, and we found ourselves welcoming the Carlisle Bowling Club into the fold. They saw what we were doing, liked it, and decided to join the fun.
Today, we’re nestled at 18 Kent Street, Victoria Park, and we’ve become more than just a venue for the sport of bowls. Sure, we’ve got two top-tier grass bowling greens, but that’s not all. Over the years, we’ve evolved into a buzzing hub for the entire Victoria Park Carlisle area. We’re talking a spacious hall that can accommodate up to 100 guests, a fully equipped commercial kitchen that can whip up a feast, and a bar area that’s seen more stories and laughter than a comedy club.
But let’s not forget about our sporting credentials. We’re proud hosts to Area 5 Football, complete with a state-of-the-art soccer pitch that’s the envy of the region. We’ve also recently formed a partnership with the Street Roller Hockey League. The result? A brand spanking new rink on our grounds that’s ready for action. We’re all about embracing a variety of sports and activities, keeping things fresh and exciting for our members and visitors.
When it comes to bowling events, we’re pros. We can handle anything from small, intimate bowling gatherings to larger tournaments. Some of our signature events include the much-adored Ladies Touch of Style and the Quick and the Dead, a popular Mixed Pairs event.
Our commitment to fostering a vibrant community spirit is evident in our summer and winter activities. We’re not ones to hibernate, you see. During the summer months, we field two ladies pennant teams on Tuesdays, one on Saturdays, and two men’s pennant teams on Thursdays and Saturdays. And let’s not forget our Wednesday nights, which are reserved for the relaxed fun of barefoot bowls.
As the seasons turn, our winter offerings include mixed Scroungers on Thursday and Laurie Kelly Pairs on Saturday afternoons. It’s a year-round party here, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, if you’re considering joining the Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club, consider this your official invitation. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a newcomer to the sport, we offer a welcoming environment where you can enjoy both competitive and social bowls. Drop in, say hello, and experience the unique blend of fellowship and friendly competition that makes our club so special. We promise, you’ll fit right in.
