What a weekend we’ve had at Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club. It was one for the books, and not just because we had the legend Ben Twist showing us how it’s done. Friday’s clinic wasn’t just about learning; it was about seeing the game through a new lens, and let’s be honest, trying to figure out how Ben makes those impossible shots look easy.
Saturday evening brought the kind of match that even the most stoic bowler couldn’t help but get swept up in. Our face-off with South Perth under the fading light wasn’t just a game, it was a spectacle, and yes, we kept the lights on a bit longer than usual.
Sunday’s game against Forrestfield? That was pure, unadulterated bowls at its best. No frills, just the sound of bowls meeting grass and the occasional cheer when someone nailed it.
Massive thanks to the volunteers. You’re the unsung heroes who make these events run without a hitch. We might not say it enough, but we appreciate every one of you.
Props to all the teams for being game with the schedule shuffle. It’s not every weekend we throw a curveball like this, but you all took it in stride.
It was brilliant to see the mix of familiar and new faces around the club. That’s what it’s all about – the community, the connection, the game. And a special nod to St Johns Park for sharing Ben Twist with us. His presence turned a regular weekend into something memorable.
As we pack away the bowls and the last of the guests say their goodbyes, it’s clear that these moments are what make Victoria Park Carlisle more than just a club. It’s a place where every game is a chance to catch up, compete, and maybe even learn something new.
Here’s to the success of the Ben Twist weekend, and to all the days ahead filled with good company and great bowling. Go the Reds!
